MV Carbon
MV Carbon (NY) is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of sound, sculpture, and experimental instrument design. Her practice explores how sound, technology, and material form shape spatial experience, and collective listening. Her process draws on synthesis, analog recording techniques, and real-time frequency manipulation. Through repetition, decay, and feedback, she investigates sound as a temporal and spatial phenomenon, revealing shifting relationships between presence, memory, and emergence.
Working across performance, experimental instrument design, and sound installation, Carbon creates playable sculptural systems using metal, wood, clay, found objects, and electronics. Integrating circuits, sensors, voice, and amplification, her works produce unexpected sonic logics through interaction and saturation, treating space as a responsive field shaped by sound, movement, and technological mediation.
“I find music within form by producing patterns onto objects through momentum. The cello resonates like a human voice and I often let it speak for itself. I am interested in activating and enhancing the sonic and architectural features of a given space.”
In performance, she often brings together electric cello, reel-to-reel tape machines, vintage microphones, and analog telephones in live setups that combine acoustic and electronic systems. These open configurations unfold through performance, exploring how sound emerges through material exchange.
Carbon has been awarded residencies at Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Clocktower Gallery (NY), EMS Elektronmusikstudion (SE), Issue Project Room (NY), Koncertkirken (DK), Pioneer Works (NY), Q02 (BE), Roulette (NY), and Zebulon (CA); has exhibited multimedia environments, and films, including solo exhibitions at Tomato Mouse Gallery (NYC), IDIO Gallery (NYC), and Heliopolis (NYC), amongst a variety of group exhibitions and screenings including Cafe Otto (UK), D’Amelio Gallery (NY), Essex Flowers (NY), Knockdown Center (NY), Fridman Gallery (NY), Louis V.E.S.P. (NY), Microscope Gallery (NY), Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery (NY), and Snow Gallery (NY); has solo/ and or collaborative projects released on record labels including Kill Rock Stars, Atavistic Records, Discombobulate, Ecstatic Peace!, Chaikin Records, Hanson, Load Records, No Fun Productions, Various Artists, and Veglia; has composed soundtracks for The String Orchestra of Brooklyn, as well as composing and producing soundtracks for a variety of independent films; has formed bands Metalux, Bad Faces, Body Types, and Bride of No No, and has collaborated with a multitude of artists.
Radiator Greys
Radiator Greys is the long-running psychedelic noise music project of St. Louis-based artist Josh Levi. Since 2011, Levi has created a haunting assemblage of harsh noise, power ambient, and layered tape loops that borders on any number of expanding, experimental soundscapes. Utilizing samplers, corroding magnetic tape, cascading synths, contact mics and chains, and no input feedback loops, their compositions often crumble in on themselves before regenerating into unfamiliar forms in a wake of sonic detritus. Informed as much by the works of Beatriz Ferreyra as they are by Aaron Dilloway, Radiator Greys’ focus on repetition, tension, release, and collapse resonates deeply in the emotive expanse of genre non-conforming music.
