“The St. Louis String Collective wants you to rethink classical instruments.”

– Riverfront Times

The St. Louis String Collective is a 501(c3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and performance opportunities in and around the St. Louis region. StLSC focuses on techniques and styles outside of the traditional classical pedagogy, such as developing improvisational skills, learning by ear and exploring global music traditions. We support violin, viola, cello and bass players who embrace all styles of music, especially those not taught at music schools – jazz, blues, rock, folk, experimental, anything considered “alternative” and especially those that incorporate improvisation.

Their performance will conclude NMC’s 62nd season of online events, and will also be dedicated in memory of St. Louis cellist, Tracy Andreotti (1965-2020). Their performance will comprise four pieces, which range from modern compositions, to traditional folk string tunes, as well as abstract scores utilizing improvisational techniques. This event was filmed outside of the William A Kerr foundation by Foveal Media (with support from Shawn Durham and James Ridling). Guest introduction will be led by St. Louis multi-instrumentalist and music instructor, Syrhea Conaway.
