Waterbod
Pacifica, CA resident Aron Sanchez, better known under the handle Waterbod, is a photographer/videographer focused primarily on documentation of the rapidly declining population of coastal California wildlife; in particular, sea life. Waterbod often ruminates upon extreme close up views; taking his beautiful and strange aquatic subjects to a point of near abstraction, recalling the documentation of Cousteau, the otherworldly magic of Painlevé, and the abstract color animations of Fischinger. Undulating waving fields slowly pan out to reveal living sand dollar cilia; swarms of insects and tissue reveal the mortal remains of a gigantic ocean sunfish. All subjects, living or deceased are presented with the same unflinching and beautiful perspective.
